How to Give My Renter a Notice to Vacate

Last Updated: January 2025

Sometimes plans change! We understand if you can’t list your space anymore or just need to take a break. According to our Terms of Service, our hosts are required to give renters at least 30 days' notice to move out. This ensures you avoid a $60 early eviction fee and allows your renter time to find a new space!

To provide 30 days’ notice to your renter, make sure to message them through the Neighbor platform! You are able to use the following template as a guideline in delivering your message:

Hey (renter’s name)! Due to (reason your renter needs to move out), I’m writing to give you 30 days’ notice to move your items out. For the next 30 days, I’ll continue to store your items and honor Neighbor's rules. Please have your items moved out by (30 days after this notice is sent). I apologize for any inconvenience. If you'd like assistance finding a new storage space, please reach out to support@neighbor.com and the Customer Support team will help you.

Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. Thank you, (your name)

Don't forget to deactivate your listing after your renter has removed their items from the space and canceled the reservation online. This prevents other renters from reserving your space until you’re ready!
