For security purposes, before our hosts and renters can message through the Neighbor platform, they need to verify their phone number. This feature is another one of our safety checks that helps protect our community! Neighbor will also use your phone number to send you a text notification when someone messages you through the Neighbor platform. If you are a host, Neighbor will also send you a text notification when someone requests to reserve your space. This means you will need a phone number to create an account.

## Phone Verification Steps

1.  Visit your [Profile](https://www.neighbor.com/dashboard/442833/profile) and click on [Private Information](https://www.neighbor.com/dashboard/442833/profile/private)
    
2.  Under “Personal Identification” on the right, type in your phone number

3.  Click “Verify”
    
4.  You will receive a text message with a verification code. Insert the verification code in the pop-up window

5.  Click “Verify

## Can I verify a landline?

No, Neighbor's platform currently only supports verification of phone numbers that can receive an SMS text message.
