Your **listing photos are one of the first and most important things** that potential renters will see when looking for spaces to reserve. This is a critical, but often overlooked, way to improve the quality and perception of you and your space.

**Improving your listing photos is one of the easiest ways to increase the number of reservations you receive and increase your earnings on Neighbor.**

Luckily, high-quality photos don’t require expensive equipment or professional photography skills. Watch the video below and keep reading to learn how.

## First things first, clean!

Nobody wants to rent a space that looks cluttered, dirty, or unappealing. Before you start taking photos, take a good, hard look at your space. Is it nice and tidy? If the answer is no, it’s time to spruce it up.

* **Declutter and organize:** Remove any items that don’t need to be in the space or that would be removed when a renter moves their items in. Arrange, tidy and organize other items in the space. (Listing photos with excess clutter may be rejected by our Quality Assurance team.)

* **Sweep or clear the ground:** Show renters that you take pride in the cleanliness of your space by sweeping the ground, removing weeds, or the cutting grass.

## Leverage good lighting

You may have a great space, but if it’s poorly lit in photos, potential renters might scroll right past. Good lighting sets a mood and highlights the best features of your space.

* **Outdoor lighting:** Take photos during the day when there is plenty of light but not harsh shadows from mid-day sun (ideally in the morning before noon or in the evening before sunset).

* **Indoor lighting:** Open windows and doors to let natural light shine in. If that’s not an option, try using additional light sources, such as a lamp, to ensure your space is well-lit. Avoid dark corners and shadows!

## Show the whole space

To increase the likelihood of receiving a reservation as quickly as possible, upload at least 4 photos of your space. Other important ways to showcase your space include:

* **Turn your camera:** Always take photos of your space that are wide (i.e. landscape orientation) rather than tall (i.e. portrait orientation). Wide photos offer a broader view of the space and will display better on Neighbor. The wider view allows potential renters to see more in a single image, giving them a better sense of the area you’re offering.
* **Multiple angles:** Uploading a variety of photos is crucial to give potential renters a complete understanding of your space. Include multiple photos and angles of:
    * Entrance: Show where renters will enter the space. This sets expectations and provides a sense of accessibility and security. Whether it’s a garage door, a side entrance, or a gate, make it visible.
    * The space: Take multiple photos of the area where renters’ belongings will be stored. This is the heart of your listing, so show it from various angles to provide a thorough understanding of its size and layout. Taking 2-3 photos of the actual rental space from different angles is great!
    * Special features: If your space has amenities like electrical outlets or security cameras, be sure to dedicate a photo highlighting those features.
    * Listing markings: [Many hosts upgrade their space](https://help.neighbor.com/en_us/investing-in-property-upgrades-Byx_KYdaJg) with markers and numbers to  clearly communicate to renters where they are allowed to store their items.
    * View from the street: This can provide renters with more context about how they’ll enter the space and what to look for when first arriving.
* **Show the space in use:** While you want to avoid clutter, having photos that show vehicles or items actually being stored can help renters understand what it will look like to have their items stored in your space.
